Finally caved!!!… Urban Decay Naked 3 palette

So I realise the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette has been out for some time now, and pretty much everyone has one! But I have put off buying one for so long now mainly because I kept telling myself "You don't need it!" "You have too many eye shadow palettes!" "It's too expensive!" which I'm sure you have all told yourselves the same when looking at a beautiful pair of shoes that you must have or a gorgeous bag that is practically perfect in every way!

Eventually my heart overruled my head and I finally bought the Naked 3 palette during a recent trip to the US. My justification was that with the current exchange rate it was cheaper than in the UK and that I must make the most of the situation! The fact that I was shopping in Sephora was another huge influence during my decision making process as the wonderful sales assistants there make you feel that if you do not leave the shop without a particular item, that is vital to your existance, your life is not worth living! (For those of you who have not experienced Sephora it is the depiction of a girls heaven, with luxurious makeup, skincare and perfume all of which I can not afford!)

With all of this being said, I am really pleased that I decided to buy the Naked 3 palette and it is truly unlike any of the eye shadow palette that I own. Although the shades are mostly pink and gold tones, there is something in there for almost any look… whether you are looking for something simple and everyday or a smokey eye for an evening look. The palette also comes with a double ended brush and a huge mirror which is perfect especially for traveling.

Some of the shades are more pigmented that others, but the majority live up to Urban Decay's reputation for fantastic, pigmented shades that don't budge.

I have attempted to photograph some swatches for you so you can see what the colours look like on the skin. I apologise now for my pale freckly hands!!

Strange, Dust, Burnout

Limit, Buzz, Trick

Nooner, Liar, Factory

Mugshot, Darkside, Blackheart

Out of interest I also compared the colours and the overall design of the palette to the first Naked palette which is very loved!! As you can see the colours are very different however, both have a combination of matte and glitter shadows. To be honest one of the main reasons I like the Naked 3 palette so much is because I feel like it's an extension of the two colours from the first Naked palette that I love and use on a daily basis (the well loved colours to the left of the palette, Virgin and Sin).

When comparing the palettes the packaging is extremely different, Naked has a silky material inside with a velvet texture on the outside, whereas Naked 3 is in a sort of tin box. Also the Naked palette has a magnet which shuts the lid which I really like and would have preferred in the 3. Instead the 3 has clasps that you push into the base when shutting it.

I believe some of the very first Naked palettes had Urban Decay's 24/7 eye liners instead of the brush which honestly I would have preferred in the Naked 3 palette as I always use my own brushes to apply the makeup. However, I can see why the brush may be handy especially for consumers who do not have their own brushes.

Overall I think the packaging of the Naked 3 is more durable and easier to clean (as you can see my Naked palette is filthy!!). I also think that the colours are right up my street but I can imagine that they are not to everyone's taste. The Naked 3 palette is a great addition to your makeup bag as there are so many options all in one palette! I can see myself reaching for this palette daily.
